Commonly Asked CPAP Questions

Are you considering CPAP therapy as a method to improving your sleep and gaining greater overall health? Starting a new regime can be difficult to adjust to and may even seem overwhelming at first. Here are some commonly asked questions and answers to get you started.

How Long Until Sleep Apnea Symptoms Improve?

CPAP therapy is often known to create effective results quickly but it’s important to note that each person’s experience is different. You may feel improvements in your sleep after just one night of using a CPAP machine or you may need some time to adjust to sleeping with one. It also depends on the severity level of your sleep apnea and how impactful it is on your sleep to begin with.

How Often Do I Need to Use the CPAP Machine?

CPAP therapy is most effective when used every night for the duration of your sleep. While you may feel improvement after just one night, it’s important to keep it up to maintain the positive effects. Studies show adults should sleep for 6-8 hours per night so it is ideal to wear your CPAP machine for the duration of that time as well.

Can I Travel with my CPAP Machine?

Yes, you can and should travel with your CPAP machine, even on planes! CPAP therapy doesn’t need to cramp your jet-setting travel plans, in fact, you’ll likely be up for even more with your new found energy. While you can travel with any CPAP, the ResMed AirMini Travel CPAP is a great addition to your current machine as it will fit into the palm of your hand!

Do I Need a Prescription?

Yes. As long as you are purchasing a CPAP machine within the United States, a prescription is required. The FDA has it classified as a Class II Medical Device therefore it is required regardless of where you purchase it.

Can I Use my Insurance?

While it is possible to use insurance to purchase your machine, the Hiro Health online store is for customers who would prefer to pay for their sleep study, PAP device, and supplies without using health insurance. We do accept FSA and HSA dollars for all products and services we sell. It is your responsibility to determine eligibility and obtain approval under your plan. Hiro Health is not a party to your decision to utilize HSA or FSA dollars for our products and services.
